Renault ADR, Renault AGR, Renault R2060, Renault R2080
Renault ADR, Renault AGR
The Renault brothers started building commercial vehicles in 1903, with their first heavy truck following in 1906. Large numbers of military vehicles were manufactured during World War I. Diesel engines were used from around 1930 and, by the mid-1930s, Renault was producing a range of trucks suitable for payloads up to 15 tons.
Falling neatly into the middle of this range, the 3 1/2-ton AGR, were bonneted 4X2 trucks for highway use. The ADR was generally fitted with a composite wood and steel cargo body, with a rear tailgate and canvas cover fitted. The AGR could be found with a radio van box-type body. Both trucks were powered by a 4,025cc four-cylinder petrol engine with magneto ignition driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox as shared with other Renault trucks of the period.
Both types were in French Army service at the beginning of World War II.
Renault R2060, Renault R2080
The Renault R2060/R2080 series was a development of the company's Model 206E1, a forward-control panel van dating from 1945. In 1947, it was replaced by the much-improved R2060 Goelette( Schooner) which the French Army used as an ambulance and general-purpose load carrier. In 1953, Renault introduced the R2057 and R2064, BOTH 4X4 variants, solely for the French Army. The R2057 had a van body, and the R2064 was produced as a wooden-bodied pick-up, and as a chassis-cab unit. These were replaced by the improved R2068 in 1953 and then by the military/civilian models, R2087 and R2087N in 1956. During its life, the vehicle was fitted with three different types of four-cylinder engine, coupled to a four-speed gearbox and two-speed transfer box. The French Army used the vehicle in a variety of logistics roles.
