Citroen Mehari,Citroen-Kegresse P2
Citroen Mehari
Citroen introduced the utilitarian 2CV in 1948 and the vehicle remained in production for more than 4 ears. Originally described as the TPV(Tres Petit Voiture) the 2CV was the basis of a number of similar types, all sharing the two-cylinder horizontally opposed engine and unique interlinked coil-spring swing-arm suspension. The most interesting of these was the Dyane-based Jeep-like Mehari dating from 1968, which was also produced as a special 24V military version for use in rear areas. There was also a four-wheel-drive version introduced in 1979, although these did not enter military service.
Sharing the chassis, 602cc engine, platform and transmission of the Dyane, the Mehari was fitted with a unique moulded body featuring inner and outer panels of ABS(Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic riveted to a tubular-steel space frame. The military version was produced as a two-seater with a load area at the rear, or as a four-seater.
Citroen-Kegresse P2
In 1910, the French engineer Adolphe Kegresse developed a traction system which allowed " travel at all speeds over deep snow and ice, or roads covered with lightly packed snow, or on dry or stony roads". Avoiding the standard crawler tractor approach, Kegresse used an endless flexible-rubber belt track that offered a unique combination of performance, ride quality and reliability.
Returing to France from Russia after the Revlution, Kegresse made contact with Andre Citroen and sold him sole rights to the design. A Kegresse bogie was fitted to a Ciroen B2 motor car to produce the Citroen-Kegresse P2. At military vehicle trials held at Satory(1923,1924 and 1925) the P2 was the only vehicle in its class to be awarded a government subsidy. By 1927, the P2 had been replaced by the P7 with an improved positive system, and this led to the P107 of the late 1930s.
Citroen-Kegresse half-tracks were used by the French Army for a variety of roles up to 1940, including ambulance, field car, armoured car, tractor and anti-aircraft.
